Minutes of meeting on 8th October 2007

The minutes of the September meeting were approved.
1) Chair Report:
- Received a letter from a research student at Heriot Watt University studying "flood risk communication" looking for addresses in possible flooding areas.
- Merchiston CC holding a public meeting on the draft licensing policy.
- A discussion took place on the draft licensing policy. The chair to respond with CCC comments.
- Evening News looking for nominations for its "real lives" section.
- Received CEC standing orders policy.
- Pentland Hills neighbourhood partnership meeting 9th October. Chair to attend.
- Received a letter from a Currie resident asking if the pilot cold calling ban will be extended to this area. Chair to investigate and report.
- Attended the Currie ride committee meeting. Arrangements for next year's common ride well in hand.
2) Convenors Report:
- A Planning;
- A Clark tabled a report and gave a summary of its contents.
- A Clark to organise the tannery project developers to attend our November meeting.
- A Clark declared to the meeting he was a coterminous proprietor of the site involved in the proposed road construction at the junction of Blinkbonny Road / Lanark Road West. He gave a detailed presentation on the developers' plan, which highlighted the many problems with it. An alternative plan he had developed, using the Muirwood Road Junction, was put to the meeting.
- Cllr A Paisley to investigate a possible grant for a feasibility study on improvements to the Currie Post Office Conservation area.
- A Clark to contact CEC asking if the sale of Curriehill School to developers could include maintaining the main frontage and our preference for a mixed development rather than all residential.
- Cllr R Henderson informed the meeting that he had been assured by CEC officials that the proposed pedestrian phase for the Gillespie Crossroads would go ahead regardless of the developers' cash input
- B Education;
- The new head teacher at CCHS Kate Paton would attend some of our meetings, as would two senior pupils
- C Environment;
- B McGovern tabled a report and gave a summary of its contents
- Trees are to be planted on the garden side of the tarmac road to screen the blue walls at Currie Primary School
- Three grants of £100 each to local organisations were approved: Friends of Muirwood Park, Currie Playgroup and Currie Boys' Brigade.
- Bow top fencing had been installed to replace the chain link fence on the north side of Pentland Park
- D Flower Tubs;
- E Transport;
- Public meeting on 18th October on traffic calming measures for Currie CHS
- F Health/Website;
- V MacKinlay tabled a report and gave a summary of its contents
- The website is now up and running using the .gov domain name www.currie-scc.gov.uk
- It was noted that no commercial links can be included because of the .gov domain name. C & B news to be contacted so that the domain name can be publicised in the next issue
3) Young People's Issues:
- A meeting has been arranged with Alex Patterson to discuss traffic around Currie Youth Club entrance.
- A second grant application has been submitted for a feasibility study for the youth club redevelopment
4) Finance:
- Two £5,000 grants for the multi sport court have been received.
- £2,632.97 funds available
- Current bank balance £13,429.97
5) City Councillors:
- All inputs had been covered during the meeting
