MINUTES OF MEETING ON 10TH SEPTEMBER 2007

1. POLICE REPORT: PC Mike Smith gave a summary of the September neighbourhood watch newsletter. A house in Viewforth Crescent where the occupants have been causing some ongoing problems were visited by police officers remedial action taken. Theft from garages and garden sheds appears to be on the increase. A CCTV camera is to be out into use in the Pentland pub area. Cllr A.Paisley thanked Mike for solving many of the local problems.
2. CURRIE C H S: D.Henderson is to contact the new head teacher Kate Paton and invite her to attend our future meetings.
3. CHAIR REPORT: A letter has been received from the Scottish Executive asking if we support another Forth Bridge crossing.
4. CONVENORS:
A. Planning - In A Clark's absence the chair has been monitoring planning issues. The Curriehill School has been put up for sale, and a number of options were discussed if a developer were to purchase it.
B. Education - Nothing to report.
C. Environment - B. McGovern tabled a report and gave a summary of its contents. The council agreed to support the Sport Scotland grant application for the basketball/ football all weather court to be situated in George V Park. The order has been placed; the chair and Brenda McGovern were authorised to sign the agreement on behalf of the Community Council, CEC has offered bow top fencing to replace the existing chain link at Pentland Park this would be accepted if the height is 1.2 metres. The corslet plaque has been re-attached. Brenda will respond to a number of letters from Arthur Hilton.
D. Flower Tubs - No vandalism has been reported and the display continues to flourish.
E. Transport - Nothing to report.
F. Health/ Website - V.Mackinlay tabled a report. Further discussions between public partnership forum and NHS Lothian taking place on the website development. G.Dane to write to our MP A Darling to clarify the .gov allocation for our Currie Community Council domain name.
5. YOUNG PEOPLES ISSUES - Lottery grant for youth club re-development feasibility study was refused. B.McGovern to pursue other options.
6. FINANCIAL REPORT: Annual grant has been received. Total funds in bank £3007.94. Current funds available £2040.94. It was decided to ask C & B news to advertise Currie CC decision to give small grants to local organisations.
7. CITY COUNCILLORS: A local church group has approached Cllr A.Paisley with an offer to do something in the community; suggestions are to be put to them.
A special meeting has been organised to discuss the proposed closure of 22 schools.
The proposed road construction and traffic light installation at the junction of Muir Wood Road and Lanark Road West to allow Kinleith development, to proceed is back on the agenda of C E C road traffic management. Cllr A.Paisley and A.Clark to action any condition on planning consent.
