Minutes of Currie Community Council meeting of 13th October 2008.
1. Present :
Graham Dane (Chair), Nairne Wight, Brenda McGovern, Kate
Paton, Cllr Alastair Paisley, Elaine Fraser, Marge Barker. Mike Ferrigan in
attendance.
2. Apologies :
D. Bertram, A. Clark, D. Henderson and Cllr R. Henderson
3. Minutes of September meeting:
It was agreed to add K Paton to the
list of those present.
4. Matters arising:
It was agreed that, if she felt it was
appropriate, Kate Paton would set up a meeting with resident(s) concerned
about the wind turbine. A site visit for community council members may be
agreed at later date if required.
5. Mr Ferrigan:
Mike Ferrigan approached the Council for a letter of support in his
application for a grant from the Climate Challenge Fund on behalf of Piper,
the Eco sub group of the Parent Council of Currie High School. The paper
circulated outlining aims and objectives. It was agreed that a letter of
support would be provided in consultation with K Paton.
6. CCHS :
K Paton circulated report and gave a summary of the contents.
There were good results with most of them placed in the second top band in
Scotland. Statistics include independent schools. The Chair
passed on congratulations and also commented that many good things we are
aware of do not show up in statistics. A summary of the Standards and
Quality report has been issued and the full version is now available on
school website.
7. Chair Report :
Currie Fair - The first meeting of the committee has been held. £500 is
available as float with £200 is being donated by C&B News. Alastair Darling
has agreed to open and Alastair Paisley to close and present prizes etc.
Pitches were confirmed as £10 each with 10 free programs given to
organizers to sell. It was suggested to have Birds of Prey or a similar
attraction and possibly an army assault course. The fair is to showcase the
community. It has been proposed to have a stage for bands/dancers etc. KP
is to check re stage and Bands from High School. The Round Table has offered
to undertake stewarding and programme selling. Also there is an area for
car boot sale. Heriot-Watt is to be asked to help with publicity. The next
meeting will be on 24th November at 7.30 pm at Mount Parnassus.
Pentlands Neighbourhood Partnership - the meeting of 7th Oct was attended by
G. Dane. Graham Kitchen is to investigate and report on the provision and
maintenance of steps to the Water of Leith Walkway. Flooding is to be on the
agenda for next meeting on 9th December. They have significant funds
available to give out as grants, with £53K remaining.
Kinleith Mill- AP advised the Council were uncertain about the work required
to reopen the Right of Way as there is now a steep embankment. However, the
right of way has been opened by members of the public by making an opening
in the bridge and removing some of the metal fencing to be able to access
the walkway both ways. Steps have also been created up the embankment and
the walkway is in full use.
8. Planning Report :
- Report has been circulated and discussed.
Attention was drawn to item 3.05 - Janice Pauwels will be attending the CCC
meeting in February re Powering Edinburgh.
9. CCC website :
Members were encouraged to look at the website. Photos
provided by Friends of Muirwood Park are now there. A library of A Clark's
reports and travel facilities from Currie is to be uploaded.
10. Environment:
B McGovern had circulated a report, and gave a summary of
its contents.
11. Treasurer:
Financial report had been circulated.

Monday 10th November 2008 at 7.30 pm in the Gibson-Craig Hall.
