Report to Currie Community Council, 11th January 2010

  Hammer-throwing "Battleaxe"

We were very glad indeed to welcome Shirley Webb, hammer-throwing Olympic athlete and Gladiator "Battleaxe" to the school on 16th December 2009. Shirley kindly agreed to present our Duke of Edinburgh awards. Not only is Shirley the Scottish record holder for the hammer, professional businesswoman and television celebrity — she is also the holder of a Duke of Edinburgh Gold award. She was a great inspiration to the many pupils who received Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.

Ebenezer

Our school show, Ebenezer, which ran from 14th to 16th December was a great success. In contrast to recent years, many more junior pupils were involved in the show. The acting, singing and dancing was tremendous and ably supported by all the backstage crews.

Holocaust Memorial Day

We are looking forward to hosting the annual Holocaust Memorial Day 2010 on Wednesday 27th January. Derek Duncan, RME teacher and an enthusiastic group of S6 pupils are responsible for the organisation and presentation of this City of Edinburgh civic commemoration. It is an honour for the school to be asked to host the event, the theme of which will be "The Legacy of Hope".
