This site does not automatically capture or store personal information. The Internet Service provider may log the user's IP address and session information such as the duration of the visit and the type of browser used. This is recognised by the web server and is only used for system administration and to provide statistics. We do not use cookies for collecting user information from the site.

Any personal data collected through this website will be treated as confidential in line with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Summary of Terms

Browser

Software used to locate and display Web pages. The Currie Community Council site will accept requests from all browsers.

Web Server

Software running on the remote computer hosting the website, which delivers (serves up) web pages to your computer (the web client).

Cookie

Message given to a web browser from a web server. If the browser is set to accept cookies it will store the message in a text file. Each time the browser requests a page from the server, this message is sent back. A cookie's main objective is to identify users and personalise their visit by customising web pages for them for example by welcoming them by name next time they visit the same site. A site using cookies will usually invite you to provide personal information such as your name, e-mail address and interests. This site does NOT request cookies.

IP (Internet Protocol)

All networks connected to the internet are "carried" by IP, the technical standard which allows data to be transmitted between two devices. TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is responsible for making sure messages get from one host to another and that the messages are understood.

HTTP

HyperText Transfer Protocol is the communication methodology used to exchange information between the web server and web client.

HTML

The web pages are written using software to generate a form of HTML (HyperText Mark-up Language) or written in pure HTML. This site's pages are written in HTML 3.2, to ensure interactions are fast enough for users not on broadband, and guarantee availability to all browsers. We have no control over the performance and reliability of linked sites.
